How Employees Can Provide Actionable Feedback
Using 360 feedback, an employee’s performance evaluation is rounded out with the thoughts and views of the different people, they interact with at the workplace. Employees have a platform to provide relevant feedback that can positively impact their colleagues’ performance without causing conflict in the organization.
While many employees
are happy to complete a 360 feedback survey,
some hesitate to give negative feedback, especially when they know their feedback
is reviewed by the employee’s manager and human resources. And then there are
those who are highly critical and give little-to-no positive feedback.
Finding a middle way
is the key. Here are a few suggestions you can provide to 360-degree rater that
will encourage them to share authentic yet considerate thoughts:
Be
Honest
Think about each
competency on the review form and give a score you feel is suitable based on
your experience with the employee.
Provide
Relevant Feedback
Consult the report
included in the review form so you provide feedback that aligns with your
employer’s expectations.
Be
Specific and Thorough
Provide examples and
additional information in the comments section so the employee gets actionable
feedback to make improvements.
Keep
It Professional
It’s good, to be
honest, but never be rude. Remember that feedback is reviewed before it’s
shared with the employee.
Remember
You Are Not the Only Rater
You are one of many
employees evaluating your colleague, so do your best to give fair feedback but
don’t be astonished if it’s not acted on.
The objective of 360 feedback is to help each individual in the organization grow
by providing comprehensive performance evaluations.
Keep these tips in
mind as you go through the process of providing feedback to your colleagues and
trust they’ll treat you with the same respect.
